Okoume Marine Plywood wants nothing less than for you to be pleased with the products and services we offer. Okoume is a specie of wood which grows in Africa; it is a light to medium mahogany color; its botanical name is Aucoumea Klaineana. Yielding consistent clear veneers, it is stable and it glues well. It is also quite light in weight, however, it does not rate highly in rot resistance so it is best to seal all four edges with epoxy or your preferred resin, according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions. All of our marine grade plywood is laid up using phenolic resin glue. Our Okoume plywood is available in two grades, the upper grade is called B.S.1088 . It is the traditional High Quality European plywood that, over the years, has earned a reputation as the best of the best. It has more ply's per sheet, excepting the thinner panels, and its inner ply's are of more equal thickness yielding a more balanced panel. It must pass stringent water and boil proof testing, as well as each sheet being subjected to an ultrasonic test to insure proper lamination. It's finished with best A grade face veneers available. Our 1088 is also certified and stamped by Lloyd's of London. The second of the two grades is known as B.S.6566. This is more of a utility grade of marine type plywood. Manufactured using the same specie of veneers, the same phenolic resin glue, and is Okoume thru-out. It is nearly half the price of the B.S. 1088 so it is an extremely good bargain if it fits your needs. It also must pass a water and boil proof test. Its face veneers are graded B/BB. Khaya Marine Plywood We also stock in the B.S.1088 another specie in our marine grade plywood. It is called Khaya. Khaya is a very beautiful specie of African Mahogany, darker and denser than Okoume, yielding a stiffer panel, as well as a sheet that readily lends itself to elegant, high end, bright work and finish. It must meet all the same B.S.1088 specs and is Khaya thru-out. |
